Good People

part of the Provocation Series at Sage Theatre’s 2020 IGNITE! Festival of Emerging Artists

Good People is a digital project that unfolds across several websites. Start here: https://goodpeoplelandingpage.blogspot.com/2020/05/good-people.html

This is a free event, but we strongly urge you to donate to the Calgary Black Empowerment Fund, or other Black-centred organizations or initiatives.

Langley, BC. 2007. A 14-year-old boy named Lucas Good tragically takes his own life. When his parents and his church refuse to hold a funeral for him because he was gay and a suicide victim, a queer progressive social movement rises up in protest. Soon after, a counter-movement follows, asserting that freedom of religion means churches should be allowed to follow their beliefs and deny funerals at their discretion, no matter how other groups may feel. All the while, everyone believes they are good people. Can that really be possible?

From the mind of emerging queer artist Bryan Sandberg, Good People interrogates our notions of what makes people “good” or “evil” through the screens of our digital devices. Trace the threads of this twisted narrative across the Internet, exploring from podcasts to videos to blogs, and uncover the truth for yourself.
