An experiment on the dramaturgical awareness of collaboration with elements of design, this session will be inspired by the Portuguese-Brazilian method Modo Operativo_AND, created by Fernanda Eugenio and João Fiadeiro. MO is a tool to question what it is to have an idea in a creative praxis, a game in which you will discover the rules as you play, and that will change depending on other players.

The process of making art, in this method, is not different from its result. MO is about ‘composição’; ‘com’ is a prefix from Latin meaning ‘with’ and ‘posição’ in Portuguese means ‘position.’ In our creative practices, we are constantly making ‘com’-positions with people, ideas, and things. Therefore, you will be tasked to consider the properties and affordances of things involved in art making. You will be introduced to concepts of expanded scenography and dramaturgy. Bianca Guimarães de Manuel is currently the Design and Professional Development Intern for Swallow-a-Bicycle. She is now finishing her MFA in Drama/Technical Theatre at SCPA at the University of Calgary. Her recent works as set and costume designer were ‘Conduct’, and ‘inVISIBLE’, as a cyber performer was ‘Selling the best idea of yourself’ live art installation at TEDxYYC 2018, and ‘E-ntimacy’ an interactive experiment facilitated in the AWE.
